SIMAD iLab is a well-equipped coworking space that is dedicated to the Mogadishu innovation community. The iLab has a FabLab, the first digital fabrication space in Somalia; a coworking space; a conference room for startup competitions; napping room for enhancing productivity; and world-class seminar rooms.
A global community of SDGs champions.
SIMAD ILab regularly works on achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Somalia. In collaboration with the Digital Society School (DSS) of Amsterdam University of Applied Science and UNDP, SIMAD iLab organizes the annual Global Goals Jam (GGJ) in Somalia. The GGJ is an initiative of the DSS and UNDP aimed at achieving the SDGs through design methods. SIMAD ILab was the first institute to host the GGJ event in Somalia and the fifth in Africa. The GGJ is a two-day event consisting of short design sprints. Creative local teams from all spheres of innovation design the future of Somalia.

We challenge our community to take on local challenges.
To build and nurture a very strong innovation ecosystem in Somalia, we regularly host different innovation challenges. One signature event is Simathon, a hackathon competition for aspiring entrepreneurs and change makers who are passionate about tackling social issues. Simathon (abbreviated from SIMAD + Hackathon) is an event lasting 48 hours, in which a large number of young change makers meet to engage in collaborative activities.
With decades upon decades of experience between them, our mentors are a vital component of the SIMAD iLab ecosystem. In our startup programs, founders and mentors are matched for the best fit and work together through the duration of the program and beyond.
